Botswana President in Zambia to finalise MoU for Kazungula Bridge Authority

Date: Mar 28, 2024

President Mokgwetsi Masisi of Botswana has embarked on a two-day state visit to Zambia, where he was warmly received by President Hakainde Hichilema at the Kazungula One Stop Border post.

This visit marks a pivotal moment for both nations as they are set to engage in comprehensive talks that will culminate in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of the Kazungula Bridge Authority.

The agreement, which signifies a milestone in the co-operation between the two countries, was ratified during a joint Ministerial Committee meeting in Livingston last week.

The meeting saw key delegates, including Botswana's Minister of Transport and Public Works, Eric Mullally, and Zambia's Infrastructure Minister, Charles Myopia, come together to finalise the terms of the authority.

The Kazungula Bridge, a critical infrastructural link between the two countries, has been operational without a formal governing body since its inauguration in May 2021. The establishment of this authority is expected to enhance the management and operational efficiency of the bridge, further facilitating trade and movement between Botswana and Zambia.
